An Introduction To Our Company
The firm of Jorgensen and Close Associates, Inc. (J&CA) has provided consulting structural engineering services, exclusively, since its beginning in 1952. As design professionals, these services include a wide variety of projects such as water and wastewater treatment plants, bridges and buildings. In the early 1960's J&CA became actively engaged in the specialized field of design of rectangular and circular prestressed concrete tanks.
Ib Falk Jorgensen has been an active member of the American Concrete Institute (ACI) since 1956 and a member of ACI Committee 344 since 1963. He was chairman of this committee from 1965 until the issuance of the report, Title No. 67-40, "Design and Construction of Circular Prestressed Concrete Structures," published in the September 1970 ACI Journal.
Mr. Jorgensen was also vice-chairman of the American Water Works Association (AWWA) Committee D-201 established in 1974 to develop a Standard for circular wrapped prestressed water structures. In 1986 the First Edition of ANSI/AWWA D110-86, "AWWA Standard for Wire-Wound Circular Prestressed-Concrete Water Tanks" was published. He was recently appointed chairman of the AWWA Committee D-200 on Tendon-Type Prestressed Concrete Water Tanks. A Standard on tendon tanks is expected to be issued in 1994. Mr. Jorgensen is the chairman of the Post-Tensioning Institute (PTI) Committee on Water Tanks, Silos and Oil Storage Tanks. He also serves on tank committees for the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), and the International Prestressing Federation (FIP).
Steven R. Close joined the firm in 1971 after expanding the capabilities of J&CA's tank design computer program as a class project while still attending the University of Colorado. He is a member and secretary of ACI 344 and is chairman of the Subcommittee on Circular Prestressed Concrete Tanks With Circumferential Tendons. Mr. Close is chairman of the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute Tank Committee. He is also a member of the PTI and FIP tank committees and is active on the AWWA Tendon and Wrapped tank committees as an alternate to Mr. Jorgensen.
The basic features of tanks designed by J&CA are horizontally and vertically prestressed walls, prestressed two-way flat plate roofs, and fully two-way prestressed floor slabs. J&CA's experience with numerous types of rectangular and circular prestressed concrete tanks helps owners receive the best value for their money when competing systems are bid against one another. J&CA designs each competing system for "apples-to-apples" comparison of quality and reliability.
